Installing New Domain controllers with server 2008 – "! Chevere y Bien!"
Windows Server 2008 has an install from media (IFM) feature that can be used when installing new domain controllers. IFM uses a restored copy of Active Directory as a starting point for replication on new domain controllers rather than replicating the entire Active Directory database.

En una reunion con varios Administradores de Domino se logran enumerar algunas de las herramientas mas utilizadas cuando trabajamos con el Active Directory en Windows Server2008.
“Some of the Active Directory tools use – manage, repair, or troubleshoot.”
Wbadmin.exe
Se usa para ahcer un restore del AD.
"Use to back up and restore Windows Server 2008. This tool is required for system state restores and is installed when you install the Windows Server Backup feature."
Windows Server Backup
Interface grafica para hacer Backups en Server 2008 – reemplaza a "NTbackup" en 2003,2000 servers.
"Is a graphical tool that is used to back up and restore Windows Server 2008. This tool is not functional until you install the Windows Server Backup feature."
Ntdsutil.exe
"Command line tool employed to manage Active Directory. It can be used to mark an Active Directory restore as authoritative, delete / remove Active Directory objects left after a domain controller fails (Tombstone), and when seize operations master roles occur."
Repadmin.exe
"Use to monitor and manage Active Directory replication."
Ldifde.exe
"Use to import and export LDIF files from Active Directory."
Dcdiag.exe
"Use to Monitor Replication between domain controllers."

Hacer un Backup del System State en Server 2008…

Importantisimo en Server 2008 "Windows Server Backup y Wbadmin.exe" reemplazan el Backup utility "Ntbackup.exe" que teniamos en Server 2003 y 2000. Ojo ya no se hace BK a TAPE Backups solo se permite hacer a Discos locales y remostos mas a DVD/
1ero tienes que correr el Wizard para incluir "Windows Server Backup" en tu servidor (es) recuerda que no viene instalado por default.
2ndo ya no tienes la opcion de solo salvar archivos individuales com antes, es decir tienes que selecionar " I Want To Be Able To Perform A System Recovery in This Backup” asegurandote que el volumen que escoges tiene el" %Systemroot%\NTDS" para que el conglomerado de informacion / datos que resumen el System State ( AD DS y otro monton de info de configuracion del Servidor) se graben durante el proceso de Backup tales como:
■ SYSVOL directory
■ Active Directory database and log files
■ Registry
■ COM+ Class Registration database
■ Active Directory Certificate Services database
■ Cluster service information (si aplica)
■ System files that are under Windows Resource Protection (Importantes para hacer otros Domain Controllers usando como base el equipo actual.)
Nota: Miembros de los grupos " Administrators y Backup Operators" tiene los privilegios de realizar "manual backups". IMPORTANTE solo los miembros de Administrators pueden hacer Schedules Backups y este tipo de permisos no se delega por parte de Windows Server 2008.
