Make USB Bootable Media – Deploy Windows 8 and 8.1 (Isvet Laclaustra)
October 24, 2013 § Leave a comment
UPDATED for 8.1!
In Windows 8 and 8.1 a tool for creating USB Bootable Media is DISKPART.
DISKPART will help you clean drive, create an activate a partition, and format to NTFS in a very simple way, you can follow the notes below.
Important once the USB drive is prepared you will need to add / transfer all the files / content from a Windows 8, 8.1 DVD to the USB you just formatted.
It works as a charm! Hope you can use it in your lab, “On the Floor” and surely in your SCCM 2012, MDT 2012 U1 created media or Plain USB.

Enable iSCSI thru THE FIREWALL–Windows 2008 R2
April 27, 2011 § Leave a comment
Allowing the use of an Internet Storage Name Service (iSNS) server through the firewall is possible directly from the iSCSICLI command-line utility. However, you can still control it through the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, if desired.
To enable iSNS traffic for use with Microsoft iSCSI Initiator Use the following command to enable iSNS traffic through the firewall. This allows you to use an iSNS server with the local Microsoft iSCSI Initiator:
iscsicli FirewallExemptiSNSServer

Windows® 7 and /or Windows Server® 2008 R2 leverage iSCSI-based storage array through an Ethernet network adapter. Via the iSCSI Initiator you can access (SANs) with out the need of additional hardware. iSCSI is ideal for use by enterprise applications such as Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft SQL Server® among others.
· Leverage existing investments in Ethernet infrastructures and expertise
· Leverage existing investments in IP protocol
· Offer dynamic capacity expansion
· Simplify SAN configuration and management
· Centralize management through storage consolidation
· Provide scalable performance
· Provide higher storage utilization
· Provides access to storage volumes as block storage devices.

BCDEDIT–Windows 2008 R2–Boot From .VHD (Isvet Laclaustra)
April 18, 2011 § Leave a comment
The beauty of BCDEDIT… Windows TIME!
The BCDEDIT continues to support the Windows OS including Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7. If you have the need to boot your machine with a different OS [Full Capable, full use of all PERIFERALS] you might need the OLD school DUAL Boot.
Well the solution if you are in Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 is to:
1.Start a CMD
2.In CMD invoke BCDEDIT
3. As a result you will receive the BCD current boot information / order and the {current} OS boot configuration.
4. Use the identifier {current} as your base for duplicating the required parameters necessary to have a 2nd option {identifier} during your machine’s boot process. To do this just use the following via CMD:
BCDEDIT /COPY {current} /d “Windows 2nd OS Option”
5. As a result you will receive a duplicated BCD entry yet the identifier {XXXXXXX}would be different, you need to copy that as it will be required to update / correct the following parameters:
osdevice
device
6. In the CMD now you need to edit the parameters to point / located the .VHD you want to use as the 2nd OS option during the boot process. To do so just modify the parameters noted above with the /SET command.
BCDEDIT /SET {XXXXXXXXXX} device VHD=[c:]\specific_path_to.VHD
BCDEDIT /SET {XXXXXXXXX} osdevice VHD=[c:]\specific_path_to.VHD
With this you are now able to select the OS to boot from, the default time is 30 seconds.
7. Have fun!
